My Pride and Joy

Project S-10

The 1985 Chevy S-10 Pickup, was purchased on September 1st, 1998 from a guy in Kensington.  It came stock with a 2.8L V6 Automatic 3spd. tranny with overdrive.  It was bought with 109,454 miles on the odometer.  The owner insisted I could drive it home but I would have to stop every couple of miles to fill the radiator because there was a hole in it the size of a golf ball. ha ha

The front end was hit by another pickup (or so he claimed, it looks like he hit a pole) ruining the bumper, the hood, driver side fender, radiator support and puncturing the radiator (golf ball sized hole.)  Here's the truck the first day it arrived.

 Out with the old.....2.8L V6

The steering column was moved over towards the driver side wheel for additional header clearance.  So that the plastic shield around the steering shaft wouldn't melt, and there would be .. like I said.. more room for headers.  If you want to upgrade to a floor shifter rather than a column shifter you'll have an easier time.  I decided to go with the floor mount just because I like it.  When using column shifters with the V8 conversions you'll have to bend the shift lever tab in the engine compartment towards the fire wall, this not only clears the tab of obstructions but with the shift cable already having a tough time reaching the tab, it will allow you to connect the cable with ease.  If your using a floor mounted shifter, just cut the tab off.

Just a reminder that a V8 conversion is not an easy thing to do, its time consuming and it can cost a LOT of money.  Unless you are a skilled mechanic do not attempt to do a conversion.  I of course am not a mechanic but I am confident wearing a bowtie.
